Description
This Stick Spatterware Cake Platter (early mid-century) was manufactured in Holland by Societe Ceramique Maestricht. The stick style was originally developed in 18th-century Staffordshire, England and later made in other established potteries across Europe. To make this wonderful cobalt border, artisans attached cut sponges to the end of sticks and stamp-printed the design - hence the term "stick" or "stick sponge" spatterware. This platter was used to serve sponge cake at social events. The condition on the platter is good, however has a small chip on the edge and a very service crack. It is a beautiful and very collectible piece.
