Description
This is a vintage Sterling 1"=1' stand off scale model of the pre-WWII sport plane "Mr. Monocoupe". The wingspan is 36"; the actual aircraft's wingspans was 32', so it is slightly larger than 1/1 scale. The is Sterling kit C-4, and has been started, and the kit is incomplete. The wing and fuselage are missing, and you will have to make your own wing ribs, leading edge, etc based on the templates in the full-sized plans. Fortunately, the wing is mostly constant chord, so there isn't a lot of variation. The fuselage is a pretty standard box construction, and is not too complicated. Nonetheless, this is not a kit for a new builder -- the more experienced the better!!
The completed peripheral parts are ok, and include a very nice aluminum cowl, horizontal and vertical tail,
nearly complete landing gear legs and wheel pants (but no wheels). The decals are quite good, the clear covering for the cabin needs cleaned, tissue is included, and there are two envelopes of metal screws, nylon fasteners, etc.
There is a lot of spare balsa, but you still may need to buy more sheet balsa and light ply for an engine mount.
The plans specify a "B" or "C" gas engine, but I can't see why an electric motor wouldn't work, and it would preserve the very nicely formed cowl.
