    , and secretary George J. Rogers. Certificate is about 8” x 11.5”. Dark-blue print on cream-colored vellum paper. Globe vignette within title.
    James Henry Dooley (1841 – 1922) was a Richmond, Virginia lawyer, business leader, railroad executive, and philanthropist during the Reconstruction and Gilded Age. James Dooley was the son of Irish immigrants who settled in Richmond, where his father James Dooley Sr. was a successful hat manufacturer. Dooley served with the Confederacy during the Civil War, and following the war he began his career as a lawyer in Richmond where he concentrated his efforts in the rebuilding of city of Richmond. In 1880, he became a board member of the Richmond and Danville Railroad, and was also a director of the Richmond & Allegheny Railroad and the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, and was a leader in the founding of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.
