    John P. Walz, John A. Meyer, and Sam Toske. The company was funded with a small amount of funds in initial capital in order to build a rural line in the Township of Howard, South Dakota.The baseball player, Grover Cleveland Alexander, worked as a telephone lineman for the
    Howard Telephone Company
    before going on to lead the Phillies to their first pennant and World Series in 1915, then later playing for the Chicago Cubs.
